Three ways to de-stress from your work week – from a top san francisco lifestyle fashion and sports fitness fashion photographer

You’re exhausted, you work far more than the 40 hour week, you feel like you can’t take it anymore. Believe it or not, exercise is really going to help you out. Here in San Francisco we a lucky to have so many wonderful places to get outside and shake out that stress. I had the opportunity to photograph Michelle Lew Libay a coach for the San Francisco Marathon training program Run 365 on a cozy socked in with fog morning down at Ocean Beach. We met at 6am at my apartment, looked over her clothing that we had talked about before the shoot, then head down to the beach. When we arrived, I was so excited to see how cloudy and grey it was. Perfect for running and perfect for photography. We grabbed our clothing and I grabbed my cameras and we head down to the water. I showed Michelle my inspiration images of how I saw the shoot and I was snapping away. Michelle was in such a positive mood, no wonder she is a coach for the marathon. I bet her trainees just love her and her encouragement. Stride after stride Michelle knocked every shot out of the park (or ocean, in this case).

So here are my tips to de-stress from your work week.

1. Exercise. Go for a run, a swim, a bike ride. Do something to get your mind off of work. Even if it is just 30 minutes. It will help lift your spirits, and refresh your mind.

2. Meditate. The age old practise of clearing your mind is so valuable, especially if you know you won’t be able to get away on a mini break. Give yourself 10 minutes a day in silence to breathe, and practise.

3. Friends. Call a friend, go for a walk, or get a meal together. Talking to someone who is not in your industry really help shed some outside light on things and can help you through the tough times.

How to nail a Mountain Biking Shoot – tips from a top san francisco lifestyle fashion sports and fitness fashion photographer

How DO you nail your sports mountain biking shoot? Simple. Get the fearless Richard Soriano to bike down the hills of Pacifica. I can’t tell you how lucky I was to meet Richard. He is a superb mountain biker, but also a really nice guy too. Throughout the shoot we had to walk up 2 miles of steep inclining hills. Hills so steep that if you fell you were in for a few cuts, bruises and bumps. And also likely to keep skidding downwards till you hit a flat plateau.

So the shoot was not as easy as add Richard Soriano and presto you have an amazing shoot. Finding time with this man is tough. He keeps himself busy at his sports medicine clinic Action Sports Medicine. Here he helps you recover from your injuries and get you back out there. Once we were able to find a date that fit his schedule we planned out his outfits. I did a location scout the week before to make sure the terrain visually stimulating. Yes, yes indeed it was. Richard made the suggestion and he really nailed it. It was fantastic. Then, I asked him to send me images of his clothing as I always like to see what people are wearing so that I can match it with their background. Or more so, I like to have people pop out from their background, so I had him wear the opposite color on the color wheel when possible. I had example posing images with me on my phone and lined them up with the location shots I had taken the week before. Richard brought his expertise to the shoot and we really developed the ideas I had into something was superb!!

I really am so happy with these photos and lucky that he is represented by FoxRacing, as his clothing is emblazoned with their cool logo. Thank you so much Richard for the great shoot. Enjoy the photos from our shoot together.
